With the emergence of the internet, marketing is no longer the “Advertising of our fathers”.  In addition, when considering going down this path, it must be taken into account that internet audiences do not respond the same as the traditional crowd.

Going down this road requires a certain disposition.  You have to be inclined to learn a few things about the technologies used in the game, along with having the marketing “know how” to get all eyes turned in the direction you want them to face.

The internet environment is a very “freedom of choice” oriented atmosphere.  Therefore, it is important to keep in mind the reality of the diversity of the audience.  This means keeping a cultural friendly attitude in order to suit the needs of those who may be coming all the way from the other side of the globe to view your site and products.  Also, when it comes to web design, ease of use and visibility is important for enabling users to find what they want easily.

In the field of internet marketing, it is not required to have a college degree.  The only thing required is consistency, responsiveness, and creativity.

Once again, it is very important to consider the person or group being targeted when it comes to internet marketing.  You don’t want to discuss a product with a Wall Street executive the same as you would with a high school junior out to impress his friends.  So, it’s important to take this into account when marketing your products.

When it comes to the internet, never hesitate to get your marketing groove on.  But, always keep on top of the latest technologies and ideas out there, and most importantly, keep in mind the most important part “The people you are marketing to”.

What you say is true about targeting, but the overall concept is not really much different from "our father's." In ancient Rome, targeting was an issue also.  Do you think a merchant would attempt to sell a weapon to a priest?  The big difference today is the selection, along with the bells and whistles. Targeting has been with the human mind for quite some time. I agree.  It pays to know your niche.
